Survived a cup of coffee and a slice of poppyseed cake at Nimbin. It is indeed a quaint place.

Went site-seeing in Byron Bay on Wednesday, jogged on the beach on Thursday, visited the Borders National Park on Friday, climbed Mount Warning (named by Captain Cooke) on Saturday and visited the local market and jogged on the beach again today.

Mnt Warning is about 1100 meters high and looks very sheer, which it is at the top. However a fixed rope at the steep part makes it more mundane and in dry weather it is a doddle - went up in 1hr 20mins and back in 1hr 25mins - took all the photos on the way down. Bit of drizzle on the way up which turned out to be a passing cloud. I ignored the warnings not to start after 12:00 in the winter time as they allowed for 5 hours for the return trip, and indeed being caught in the forest after dark without a torch might not be a relaxing experience - people have got lost apparently. It took the first explorers 3 and 1/2 days to get up - no paths or fixed ropes for them, so losing the path in the dark might not be a good idea. Not to mention the nocturnal noises in the rain forest and the thought of every passing branch housing a red back or funnel web spider. Shiver me timbers.

Today was warm (22 celcius) , bright blue sky and little wind - also quite big waves which enticed a lot of surfers out. Ilona has being surfing every day - making the most of it. The bare foot jog along the beach was very pleasant. Quite a few nice sheila's about to add to the sun and surf.

Tomorrow is the last day in Byron and then its Noosa Heads, north of Brisbane - should be a bit warmer than here.

After that its New Zealand for three weeks with Dylan - I'm looking forward to that - visiting old haunts and exporing places new.
